Privacy policy
What we collect, why we collect it, and what we do with it.
Last updated: 21 May 2026
This privacy policy explains how LibDem.help handles personal data. The site is an independent project run by Edward Scotcher. Under UK data protection law, Ed is the data controller for the site.
What we collect
We collect three kinds of information.
Usage logs. Every time someone uses one of the tools, we record which tool was used, when, and how long the operation took. We also record whether the AI call succeeded or failed. We don't record the content of what you uploaded or typed. The purpose is to monitor the site's performance and to manage AI costs.
Feedback you send us. If you use the feedback button or any of the contextual feedback prompts, we record what you typed, the page you were on, and the time. If you choose to give us your email, we store that too. We don't store anything else.
Journey events. We log when you reach key stages in the multi-stage tools, such as starting setup, generating a learning path, or completing a topic. This helps us see where people find the tools useful and where they get stuck. We log events, not content.
What we don't collect
We don't use cookies to track you across other sites.
We don't share your data with advertisers, because there are no advertisers.
We don't collect IP addresses, browser fingerprints, or any other identifiers beyond a short-lived session ID that resets when you close the tab.
We don't store the content of anything you put into the tools. Leaflets are analysed and discarded. Rehearsal answers are processed and discarded. Route addresses are processed and discarded.
What we do with it
We use the usage logs to monitor the site's performance and AI spending. We use your feedback to decide what to build or fix next. We use journey events to understand how the tools are being used. That's it.
Third party AI services
The tools on this site use AI services from third parties.
The leaflet checker uses Anthropic's Claude. When you upload a PDF, its contents are sent to Anthropic for analysis. See Anthropic's privacy policy at anthropic.com/legal/privacy.
The hustings prep and interview prep tools use Google's Gemini, routed via the Lovable AI Gateway. When you use these tools, your inputs are sent to those services for processing. See Lovable's privacy policy at lovable.dev/privacy and Google's at policies.google.com/privacy.
We don't keep copies of what's sent to these services. They process and return a response, and we discard the input. But once data has been sent to a third party, that third party's privacy policy also applies.
Legal basis
We process usage data and journey events on the basis of legitimate interest, specifically the legitimate interest of running and improving a free tool for Liberal Democrat campaigners.
We process feedback and emails on the basis of your consent, which you give by sending us the feedback.
How long we keep it
Usage logs are kept indefinitely in aggregated form. Individual feedback submissions are kept for as long as they're useful (typically 12 months) and then deleted.
If you want us to delete feedback you've sent us, email Edward Scotcher at ed+libdemhelp@superlizer.co.uk with enough detail to identify the submission.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to:
- ask what data we hold about you,
- ask us to correct any data that's wrong,
- ask us to delete data we hold about you,
- object to how we're processing your data.
To exercise any of these rights, email ed+libdemhelp@superlizer.co.uk.
If you're not happy with how we've handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Changes to this policy
If we update this policy, we'll update the "last updated" date at the top. We don't notify users of changes, so check back if you want to see what's changed.
