Every printed campaign leaflet in the UK has to carry an imprint by law. This is set out in the Political Parties, Elections and Referendums Act 2000 and the Representation of the People Act 1983. The Electoral Commission enforces imprints for party and issue material. The police enforce imprints for candidate material.

An imprint tells voters who's responsible for the leaflet they've received. It has to include the name and address of the promoter, and the name and address of the printer. If the promoter is acting on behalf of someone else, that person or organisation must also be named.

It's an offence to publish a printed leaflet without an imprint. Tools like this one help you stay compliant before the leaflet goes to print.

For the full official guidance, see the Electoral Commission's imprint rules.
